What is Health and Wellness Coaching?

Health and Wellness Coaching is a process that helps you articulate what you want for your health and well-being and what you are going to do about it. The on-going relationship with the coach allows for continued experimentation with goals until you are able to settle the desired new habits into your complex lifestyle. This process results in a renewed mindset and the achievement of positive and sustainable change.

For a more technical definition, you can take a look at “What do Health and Wellness Coaches Do?” on the main page at the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching website.

Is this going to work?

As the research grows, there is data that shows 3 or more months of health and wellness coaching is effective in helping people make long term changes for their health and well-being. Take a gander at the articles from Harvard Health Blog and the Washington Post on the “Start Here” page.

What is a session like?

A normal session begins with checking in for a few minutes, just to see how things are going that day.

We will then spend a few more minutes reviewing the goals for the previous week to celebrate the work that was accomplished.

This dialogue will produce feelings of success, excitement, challenge, anxiety, uncertainty or ambivalence. The bulk of the session will then generate movement around whichever of these comes up and whichever you want to address.

After some progress there, we create new goals for the next week and seek to establish as many support structures as possible to produce success.

The end of the session will close with a summary and appreciation of your work, an opportunity to give the coach some immediate feedback, and scheduling the next session.

Throughout the relationship, we will be revisiting your values, long term vision and 3-6 month goals.

What are the credentials of the coaches?

Pursuit owner and coach, Brian Allen, is a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach. In 2016, the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaches partnered with the National Board of Medical Examiners to establish this certifying exam to set the standard for required competencies of Health and Wellness Coaches. Brian was trained as a Health and Wellness Coach through Catalyst Coaching Institute in Colorado and spent two years coaching staff and members at a Chicagoland fitness center, where he led the Membership Services team. Brian also earned a Master of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL, which gives him a robust perspective regarding how the transcendental, relational, emotional and mental aspects of life affect our overall health and well being. His 24 years of experience in the fitness industry has exposed him to a myriad of fitness, nutrition and wellness trends (and fads) that come and go with time. He is also aware of what has remained constant, and this knowledge contributes to his approach to physical and environmental well-being.

Brian has been married since 2006 and has 8 children, which makes him an expert on understanding the challenges of attending to one’s own health and well-being with such privileged responsibilities!

What am I paying for?

Ultimately, you are paying for a specific skill set and relationship that will help you make progress in lifestyle habits that are known to improve your health and well-being. Your work through this journey can make you a better spouse and/or parent and establish habits for your children and your children’s children for generations to come.

What makes Pursuit different than other Health and Wellness Coaching?

We focus on the challenges that family life brings to improving your health and well-being. We also highlight how your own growth pertains to the health and well-being of your children and your children’s children. Because of our unique expertise in achieving health and wellness with a large family, along with a generational vision and specific educational background and skillset, you will not find another coaching process as tailored to your needs as a spouse and/or parent.
